Marcus Rashford denies £500,000-a-week contract demand at Manchester United

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has denied the claim that he wants to become the highest-paid player in the Premier League in order to sign a new contract.

As per the Daily Star, the 25-year-old is demanding £500,000 a week to extend his stay at the Old Trafford side. The England international’s existing deal with the Red Devils is set to expire in the summer of 2024.

However, taking to Twitter, Rashford has rubbished the report about making any such request. For now, the forward is focused on helping bring more silverware to the club.

“Just before this one starts to do the rounds! It’s complete nonsense. The club and make self [sic] have been respectful to one another, and that’s how it will remain. My focus is purely on finishing as well as possible in the league and winning trophies.”

Initially, the 25-year-old’s current contract was going to conclude at the end of the season. However, earlier in the campaign, United triggered a one-year extension option in his deal.

The Red Devils are continuing their attempts to agree new terms with the England international. Due to his blistering form at the moment, the Old Trafford side are desperate to secure the attacker’s future in Manchester.

This season, Rashford is enjoying his best spell at United in terms of goals. The 25-year-old is leading the charts at the club, having found the back of the net 27 times in 44 appearances in all competitions.

Therefore, it should not come as a surprise to see the forward bide his time and get the best deal possible. However, it is a good thing that the England international came out and put the absurd rumours of wanting an enormous pay to rest.

As for United, it is understandable that negotiations are taking time, considering the uncertainty around the ownership of the club. But the Red Devils should not have let a player like Rashford go into the final year of his contract in the first place.
