Marcus Rashford was offered £400,000 a week from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last summer, but the Manchester United forward ‘rejected’ it, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].
In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old struggled for form at the Old Trafford side. However, the Parisians still approached the England international, with 12 months remaining on his contract back then.
However, Rashford turned down the Ligue 1 giants’ approach. At the moment, the 25-year-old’s existing deal with the Red Devils is set to expire in the summer of 2024 after the club triggered a one-year extension in his contract last December.
Thankfully, the England international did not leave United. The forward has revived his form in the current campaign, being the Red Devils’ leading goalscorer since Erik ten Hag’s arrival.
PSG have the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar in their ranks. However, the French outfit’s attack lacks depth, with Hugo Ekitike the only relatively established forward in the squad.
However, talks over a new contract with the Old Trafford side are yet to progress significantly. But there is a lot of agreement between the two parties. Although, the Manchester-based club are wary of Financial Fair Play and want to bring down the average wage of the squad.
Rashford made his way through the youth ranks at United. After breaking into the senior squad in the 2016/17 season, the forward has developed into a quality player.
The 25-year-old is having his best spell at the club this season. In 44 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, the England international has found the back of the net 27 times and has provided nine assists.
Rashford’s reluctance to sign a big money deal with PSG is evidently a good indication. However, it remains to be seen whether the forward has the same expectations from an offer from the Old Trafford side. However, the club cannot be held hostage and need to make a decision on the forward soon.
