Manchester United defender Raphael Varane believes that he will finish his playing career at the Old Trafford side or boyhood club RC Lens in Ligue 1.

The 29-year-old signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 from Real Madrid. After a somewhat difficult debut season, the centre-back has found his feet under Erik ten Hag in Manchester.

Speaking to GQ Magazine (h/t Mirror), the French national sees himself hanging up his boots at United. However, the former Los Blancos star is open to the idea of returning to his former clubs.

“I will finish my career either in Madrid, or in Manchester, or in Lens. I will not move to another club [other than those]. The most likely outcome today is that I will finish [my club career] in either Manchester or Lens.”

Varane made his way through the youth ranks at Lens. After breaking into the Ligue 1 outfit’s first team, Madrid came knocking for the 29-year-old’s signature in the summer of 2011.

After settling in at the Santiago Bernabeu side for a few seasons, the French national became a regular fixture in their starting lineup. He enjoyed enormous success in the Spanish capital.

The defender enjoyed 10 fruitful years at Madrid. He ended up lifting four Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles. In 2018, the centre-back also won the World Cup with his national side in Russia.

In the current campaign, Varane has shown his best at United. Last summer, we signed Lisandro Martinez from Ajax. The French national has formed a formidable partnership with the Argentine in the Red Devils’ backline.

The two have been Ten Hag’s preferred partnership in the defence. We have gone to lift the Carabao Cup, our first trophy in six years, and are still alive in the Europa League and FA Cup. We are also in a decent position to finish in the top four in the Premier League.

Hopefully, the 29-year-old will stay at the Old Trafford side for many years to come and will help bring a fraction of the success he enjoyed in Madrid to Manchester.
