Danny Murphy feels Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay “perfect” for Newcastle United
Former Liverpool ace Danny Murphy feels Manchester United star Scott McTominay would be a “perfect” signing for Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe’s team have been linked with a move for the Scotland international in the upcoming transfer window. At the moment, he is struggling for game time at the Old Trafford side.
Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Daily Mail), Murphy, who spent his playing career at Fulham as well, believes the 26-year-old is often a scapegoat for the Red Devils. He thinks the midfielder’s attributes suit the Magpies.
“I like Scott McTominay a lot. I think he gets unfair criticism at times. The way Eddie Howe and Newcastle play, he’s perfect. Super athletic, box-to-box. A really hard worker, good at spotting danger and decent with the ball.”
Newcastle are flying high at the moment. Since Howe’s arrival in the middle of last season, the Tyneside outfit have been performing well.
In the current campaign, the Magpies are challenging for a place in the top four. At the moment, the St James’ Park side have the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton and Joe Willock in the engine room.
McTominay made his way through the youth ranks at Man United. Over the years, the midfielder had established himself as a regular member of the Red Devils’ first team.
However, in the current campaign, the Scotland international has lost his place in the team. The 26-year-old has spent most of his time on the bench since Erik ten Hag’s arrival, starting in just seven matches in the English top flight.
The Old Trafford side bolstered the middle of the park with the addition of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro last summer. The Brazil international has become a pivotal player in the gaffer’s plans, cementing his place in the number six position.

Therefore, it looks like a challenging task for McTominay to retain his place in the team. However, it remains to be seen whether the Scottish national will opt to leave Man United in the upcoming transfer window and join Newcastle.
