Celta Vigo realise it is “impossible” to keep Gabri Veiga amidst Manchester United interest

Carlos Mourino, the president of Celta Vigo, has admitted that it will be “impossible” to keep Gabri Veiga at the club amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils, along with Premier League rivals Newcastle United, are monitoring the 20-year-old. Teams in the Bundesliga are also in the race for the youngster’s signature, while Spanish giants Real Madrid are also eyeing him.

At the moment, the midfielder’s current contract with the La Liga outfit expires in the summer of 2026. However, the playmaker has a modest £35 million release clause in his deal.

Speaking to the media via The Sun, Mourino expressed his desire to keep a hold of Veiga. However, Celta’s president realises it will be difficult due to other proposals on the table for the youngster.

“We want to keep Gabri Veiga but it will be impossible due to release clause. We know some bids he has, impossible to match.”

The 20-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Los Celestes. In the current campaign, the playmaker has broken onto the scene in the La Liga outfit’s first team.

The Spain U21 international has caught a lot of people’s attention with some impressive displays. He has made 25 appearances for Carlos Carvalhal’s team this season in the league, scoring nine goals and providing three assists.

Veiga is a versatile player capable of playing in multiple positions. The youngster has mostly played in the central midfield role in the current campaign but has also been deployed as a number 10 as well as in the attack.

At the moment, Bruno Fernandes has cemented his place in the team as our attacking midfielder. Erik ten Hag has also counted on Casemiro and Christia Eriksen in the double pivot in the middle of the park.

However, we could evidently do with some fresh blood on the bench. Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been inconsistent over the years. Veiga’s potential, release clause and versatility makes him a compelling buy for any team.
