Rafael Leao faces AC Milan contract ‘obstacles’ amidst Manchester United interest
AC Milan star Rafael Leao faces two major contract ‘obstacles’ at the Rossoneri amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Portugal international’s current contract with the Serie A giants expires in the summer of 2024. As a result, a number of teams, including the Red Devils, are monitoring the forward’s situation.
While the 23-year-old is keen on extending his stay at the Italian outfit, his demands are posing a problem. Therefore, a number of sides are exploring an approach for the winger’s signature as he enters the last year of his deal.
At the moment, Milan are offering Leao €6 million per year with €1 million in bonuses. However, the Portuguese wants a fixed salary of at least €7.5 million.
Also, the 23-year-old wants a large signing bonus. The forward owes Sporting CP €15 million after terminating his own contract back in 2018. But the Serie A giants are not willing to accept the winger’s stipulation so he can pay the Primeira Liga outfit.
Leao signed for the Rossoneri in the summer of 2019 from LOSC Lille. After settling in for a couple of seasons, the Portuguese led the Italian outfit to their first Scudetto win in over a decade.
In the current campaign, the 24-year-old has once again shone for the San Siro side, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists in 35 appearances in all competitions. The forward also made a mark with his national side in the 2022 World Cup.
At United, Marcus Rashford has been in imperial form this season. The 25-year-old has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils attack under Erik ten Hag. Alejandro Garnacho has also broken onto the scene and played well on the left wing.

Therefore, the Old Trafford side seem to have enough quality on the left-hand side of the attack. Leao predominantly plays in that position. But will the Portugueses’ contract standoff compel us to make a move? Only time will tell.
