Manchester United have made ‘serious contact’ with the representatives of FC Porto star Marko Grujic ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Telegraf via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror).

The Red Devils are one of the clubs interested in the 26-year-old. To that end, the Old Trafford side have made enquiries about the Serbia international’s availability.

However, the Dragoes will try hard to keep a hold of the midfielder’s services. He is also a ‘big childhood Liverpool fan’, which could be an obstacle in a potential move to the Manchester-based club.

Grujic signed for the Merseyside outfit in January 2016 from Red Star Belgrade. However, the Serbian hardly got any opportunities in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Subsequently, the midfielder joined the likes of Cardiff City in the Championship and Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on loan. He then made a temporary move to Porto for the 2020/21 season, who made the transfer permanent in the summer of 2021.

The 26-year-old has managed to revive his career at the Primeira Liga outfit. In the current campaign, the playmaker has made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese outfit, scoring one goal and providing an assist.

United signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the summer of 2022. The two have become pivotal players in Erik ten Hag’s plans at the Manchester-based club this season.

However, in the absence of the Brazilian and the former Brentford midfielder, the gaffer has had to rely on the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and on-loan star Marcel Sabitzer.

We could seemingly do with more quality in the middle of the park. However, it does not seem wise to sign a player like Grujic, who has a soft spot for one of our biggest rivals.
