Newcastle United ‘looking into’ move for Manchester United midfielder Scott Mctominay next summer
Premier League rivals Newcastle United are ‘looking into’ a move for Manchester United star Scott McTominay in the upcoming transfer window, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required).
The Magpies have been encouraged to sure up their interest in the midfielder, considering his lack of opportunities at the Old Trafford side. They wanted the Scotland international in January, but the Red Devils were unwilling to part ways with him.
However, Eddie Howe’s team hope Man United will change their stance next summer when Erik ten Hag will need to raise extra funds.
The Newcastle manager believes McTominay’s physical attributes will help him thrive in the Tyneside outfit’s system. If they do get the Scotland international, the Magpies plan on using him in the number six position to free up Bruno Guimaraes.
The midfielder is also open to the idea of making his way to the St James’ Park side. In the current campaign, Howe’s team are flying high and challenging for a place in the top four, something the 26-year-old has been impressed by.
McTominay made his way through the youth ranks at Man United. In the 2018/19 season, he broke into the senior squad and subsequently became a key player in the starting lineup.
However, with the arrival of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the summer of 2022 and with Fred and Marcel Sabitzer in the squad, the Scottish national has found game time hard to come by. He has started in just seven matches for the Red Devils in the PL under Ten Hag.

Over the years, the 26-year-old has been a brilliant servant for the Old Trafford side. However, it seems unlikely that the midfielder will be able to pip the other players ahead of him in the pecking order.
