Manchester United star Marcel Sabitzer, who is on loan at the club from Bayern Munich, has been called up to represent Austria in the upcoming international break, according to Manchester Evening News.

Former interim manager of the Red Devils and the current head coach of the Burschen, Ralf Rangnick, has included the 28-year-old in the list of players to feature in the European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Estonia.

Sabitzer was signed by the Old Trafford side on deadline day in January due to Christian Eriksen’s injury. The Denmark international has been on the sidelines for a considerable period now.

As a result, the Austrian has been given minutes by Erik ten Hag and has put in some impressive displays. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old has missed our last two fixtures due to an unspecified setback.

At the moment, Ten Hag is without Eriksen and Donny van de Beek. Casemiro also picked up a direct red card in Man United’s previous match against Southampton.

The Brazil international is now set to miss the upcoming four domestic matches. While the 31-year-old will be available for the second leg in the Europa League versus Real Betis in the round of 16, he will have to watch on from the sidelines as the Red Devils will take on Fulham, Brentford, Newcastle United and Everton.

Fred and Scott McTominay are the other established options the gaffer can call upon in the middle of the park. However, the duo have not been consistent enough over the years.

Sabitzer initially played a pivotal role as well for the Old Trafford side when Casemiro was sent off against Crystal Palace.

Hopefully, the Austrian will come back into the fold soon. After dropping points versus Liverpool and Southampton, we need to get back on track in the English top flight to secure a top-four spot.
