Brentford realise struggle to keep Manchester United target David Raya

Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, has admitted that the Bees will find it difficult to convince Manchester United target David Raya to stay.

The Spain international’s current contract with the West London side is set to expire in the summer of 2024. As of now, the shot-stopper has turned down two offers from the Gtech Community Stadium side to extend his stay.

Apart from the Red Devils, Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are also interested in the 27-year-old. However, his signature will cost over £40 million.

Speaking to the media via the Daily Mail, Frank joked that it would take Champions League qualification to convince Raya to stay at Brentford. The Danish national believes the Spaniard is one of the best in the English top flight.

“I think we need to get into the Champions League and then he would consider it! I love David as a keeper. I really believe he is one of the best in the Premier League

“If someone wants to come and buy him, he is very expensive. He will be, for me, at least £40m-plus. No doubt about that.”

The 27-year-old has been with the Bees since signing from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2019. Over the years, the shot-stopper has helped the West London-based club qualify for the PL and remain in it.

In the current campaign, the Gtech Community Stadium side have been impressive. They are in the mic for a European place at the moment.

Raya has made 24 appearances in the English top flight this season, keeping eight clean sheets. Frank also has former Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha at his disposal, having signed the Albania international last summer.

David de Gea is currently the number one at United. The 32-year-old has been trusted by Erik ten Hag in the current campaign. But while the Spaniard has made some brilliant saves, he leaves a lot to be desired playing out from the back.

Therefore, if the Dutch manager decides to part ways with the former Atletico Madrid star in the coming future, we will need a new quality shot-stopper. It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will make a move for Raya.
