Manchester United ‘keeping tabs’ on Celta Vigo playmaker Gabri Veiga
Spain U21 international Gabri Veiga, who plays for La Liga outfit Celta Vigo, is currently being tracked by Manchester United, according to El Desmarque (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are ‘keeping tabs’ on the 20-year-old. He is once again being linked with the Old Trafford side amidst interest in the attacking midfielder.
Along with the Manchester-based club, European giants Real Madrid and Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also eyeing the youngster.
Veiga made his way through the Os Celestes’ academy. In the previous two seasons, the playmaker had made a few appearances for the Estadio de Balaídos side. However, he has broken into the first team this term.
In the current campaign, the 20-year-old has been pivotal to Carlos Carvalhal’s team. He has made 23 appearances in the league, finding the back of the net eight times and providing three assists.
Currently, United have Bruno Fernandes as the number 10 in the team. Since the Portugal international’s signing in January 2020, he has been ever-present in the starting lineup.
The 28-year-old has been immense over the last few years for the Red Devils. However, last season, the former Sporting CP star struggled to contribute a lot in the final third.
In the current campaign, Fernandes has seemingly found his feet under Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager has also deployed Jadon Sancho in the playmaking role on a few occasions in recent weeks.

However, the Portuguese has looked overworked as of late. The 28-year-old evidently does not have a proper backup in the squad. Veiga is young and has a lot of potential. A player of the 20-year-old’s quality and ability has all the attributes to be an understudy for the former Sporting CP star in Manchester.
