Raphael Varane faces late fitness test ahead of Liverpool clash
According to the Daily Mail, Raphael Varane faces a late fitness test ahead of the game against Liverpool, as he has reportedly complained of leg pain in recent days.
Varane’s potential absence would be a significant blow for United, who have been defensively solid in recent weeks. The 29-year-old has formed a strong partnership with Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the United defence.
His absence would leave the Red Devils vulnerable against a Liverpool side that boasts one of the best attacks in the league. The Reds seem to be peaking at just the right time at least in the league and this could be important for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Varane’s fitness, United fans can take heart from the fact that both Maguire and Victor Lindelof are ready to step up if needed. While Maguire has not been a regular starter for United this season, Lindelof has played a key role, particularly in the absences of Varane and Martinez earlier in the season.
Of course, United would still prefer to have Varane fit and available for the game, especially given the importance of the fixture. Man United are currently in third place in the Premier League behind Manchester City and leaders Arsenal.
A win for United at Anfield would be a huge boost for their title hopes although Erik ten Hag keeps playing it down, and Varane’s presence in the starting lineup would give the team a better chance of achieving that result.

The former Real Madrid man has already shown his quality in his short time at the club, and his ability to read the game and make crucial interceptions could be key against Liverpool’s dynamic attack consisting of the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.
It is unclear at this stage whether Varane will be fit to play, but United fans will be hoping that he passes his late fitness test and is able to take his place in the starting lineup. Erik ten Hag will be hoping that is the case.
