Manchester United midfielder Fred believes the rivals will now respect them
As quoted by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United midfielder Fred believes that teams are beginning to fear the Red Devils as they pick up steam under Erik ten Hag.
After a disappointing time as a United player until the end of last season, Fred’s form has changed dramatically under ten Hag this time around. He is now one of the key cogs in the midfield.
Taking over a mess, the manager has done an excellent job, keeping the Red Devils alive in all four competitions going March, having already lifted one last week.
Talking about the fear in other teams and the confidence in beating Liverpool at Anfield, here’s Fred (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“Now they’re going to respect us, we have one way to play, everyone knows [their role] inside the dressing room. It’s a good way to go.
“We have a good squad, we have a good team, Ten Hag bring us a different mentality. We can win every game. We had good games, we need to keep it going, Liverpool is a difficult team to play against. We go step by step and we can win every game.”
Not only has Fred improved his overall game in midfield, but he has goals and assists this season as well. The Brazil international is at six goals and four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions, including a key goal to restore parity in the second leg of the Europa League tie against Barcelona.
His tenacity, work rate off the ball and ability to score or assist will be key in a big game away at Liverpool. United won’t be expected to get many chances, hence the ones they get must be taken with a clinical edge.
Even though he might deny it, ten Hag knows that a win at Anfield would send shivers down the spine of all the teams in the league and Europe. So, irrespective of whether United are in the title race or not, winning away to Liverpool will carry its own importance for the future of the club under the current boss.
