Erik ten Hag realises Manchester United will have to “sacrifice” vs Liverpool for positive result

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag realises that the Red Devils will have to “sacrifice” to get a positive result against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday (5 March).

The Red Devils will face Jurgen Klopp’s team at Anfield in what is expected to be a feisty Northwest derby. Over the years, the Merseysiders have had the better of us in their home ground. The Old Trafford side have not been able to beat them away in the last six matches.

Speaking to the media via The Sun, Ten Hag is looking forward to the game. However, the Dutch gaffer knows that it is going to be a tough task to win against Liverpool.

“I know these players, my squad, my team, will be prepared to go there and fight and to go there with confidence. We know it’s going to be difficult, we know we will have to suffer and we will have to sacrifice to get a good result. I look forward to Sunday and I’m really going to enjoy this.”

United beat the Merseysiders 2-1 at home earlier in the season. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford got on the score sheet as we beat the Anfield side 2-1, with Mohamed Salah scoring a late goal.

The win over Klopp’s team kick-started our campaign and gave us our first points in the Ten Hag era. Subsequently, the gaffer has managed to steady the ship in Manchester.

Currently, the Red Devils are comfortably in third position in the English top flight. The Old Trafford side have lost just once in the last 10 league matches.

On the other hand, Liverpool have struggled this season. The Merseysiders have not been at their best and are six points off the top four. While the Anfield side have gotten decent results in the last few weeks, Real Madrid proved that their backline is still shaky, scoring five past Klopp’s team in the Champions League.

United’s attack has been on fire, especially Rashford. The 25-year-old has shouldered the burden of our forward line in the current campaign. However, the likes of Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Sancho are also looking good.

With a win over Liverpool, the Red Devils could close the gap at the top of the table. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side will come out with the victory and do the double over the Merseysiders on Sunday.
