Playing alongside Casemiro an ‘attractive proposition’ for Manchester United target and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong
In the summer of 2022, the Red Devils had struck a deal with the Blaugrana for the 25-year-old’s signature. However, due to the midfielder’s wage deferral issues, a move did not materialise.
However, the Old Trafford side have not given up on their hopes to land the Holland international. The Manchester-based club have not closed the door on making a second approach to acquire his services.
Subsequently, last summer, United ended up signing Casemiro. The Brazil international joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid, where he won several titles, including five Champions League medals.
The 31-year-old has immediately proven his worth at the Old Trafford side with impressive performances week in, week out. The defensive midfielder has been pivotal to Erik ten Hag’s plans at the Manchester-based club.
De Jong worked under the United gaffer at Ajax. The Holland international privately gave the Dutch manager assurances that he wanted to join the Red Devils, despite publicly professing to want to stay at the Camp Nou side.
The 25-year-old has thrived at Barcelona over the years. Initially, under Xavi, the midfielder struggled for game time but has proven his importance over the course of this season.
Against United in the Europa League, De Jong controlled the middle of the park in both legs. However, the Red Devils were able to get the better of the Blaugrana.

Casemiro hardly put a foot wrong against the team he has faced countless times in El Clasicos. The Brazilian was also key to our success in the Carabao Cup. However, it remains to be seen whether the prospect of partnering up with the 31-year-old will tempt the Holland international.
