Benjamin Pavard denies wanting to leave Bayern Munich amidst Manchester United links
Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has denied wanting to leave the Bundesliga giants amidst links to Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag is set to bolster the right-back spot in the upcoming transfer window. As a result, the France international was being associated with a move to the Red Devils. The 26-year-old’s current contract with the Bavarians expires at the end of next season.
Therefore, it was expected that Pavard would leave the German outfit. However, speaking to Sport1 (h/t Manchester Evening News), the French national revealed that he has no plans to leave Bayern.
“I never said I wanted to go. I know very well that I’m in a very big club where everything is excellently positioned.
“I feel very comfortable here, I like the club and the fans and I hope we can achieve great things this season. I’m not one to disembark mid-voyage. My goal was definitely to stay at Bayern.”
The 26-year-old made his way to Bavaria in the summer of 2019 from VfB Stuttgart. Over the years, the defender has been a regular member of the Bundesliga giant’s first team.
Pavard is a versatile star. He can play as a right-back and as a central defender. In the current campaign, the France international has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
In 2018, the 26-year-old ended up lifting the World Cup after being a starter for his nation. However, Didier Deschamps hardly used the defender in the recent edition of the prestigious trophy in Qatar as Les Bleus made it to the final but lost to Argentina.
Diogo Dalot has been Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice this season. The Portuguese has started in the majority of the fixtures for the Red Devils in the current campaign.
However, since the 2022 World Cup, the 23-year-old was sidelined for some time. Having returned to the team in recent fixtures, the former FC Porto star has not been at his best.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has deputised admirably for Dalot in the last few weeks. However, the former Crystal Palace star is still behind the Portuguese in the pecking order. Therefore, it would not come as a surprise if the English national left to find opportunities elsewhere.
