Harry Maguire reveals Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes in him
Manchester United star Harry Maguire has revealed that Erik ten Hag believes he is a top centre-back who can play for the Red Devils.
The Egland international has not been the gaffer’s first choice in the current campaign. As a result, the defender has often been on the bench for the Old Trafford side.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, the 29-year-old admitted that while Ten Hag acknowledges his quality, the gaffer realises that the other defenders are performing on an impressive level at the moment.

“This is Manchester United. We want to win trophies, and big trophies and to do that you need competition for places and the manager speaks to me daily and he really respects me and believes that I am a top centre-half with all the attributes to play in his team but also he understands that the players who are playing – and I understand that the players who are playing – are playing very well.”
Maguire himself realises that the competition for places in the team has been immense this season. In that regard, while the centre-back will be hoping for more game time, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have done well.
The former Ajax defender was paired with the England international at the start of the campaign. However, after the losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, the gaffer replaced our captain with the French national in the starting lineup.
Since then, the two World Cup winners have formed a solid partnership in the backline for United. We have looked more steady in defence this term as compared to the previous campaign.

Maguire made his way to the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City. The 29-year-old was an important member of the team. In a few months’ time, he was also handed the captain’s armband.
While the England international has been decent over the years, last season, he made a number of errors in defence. As a result, most fans lost patience with the centre-back’s lack of form.
