Anthony Martial will not be available for Manchester United in Carabao Cup final
Manchester United star Anthony Martial will not be available against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday (26 February). The Red Devils will have the chance to lift silverware at Wembley Stadium.
The France international has had multiple setbacks in the current campaign due to injuries. Consequently, the 27-year-old has been on the sidelines for most of the season.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match via Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag confirmed that the Red Devils would not be able to count on the former AS Monaco star for the final.
“No, he will not be available [for the final].”
Martial has found life difficult at the Old Trafford side in the current campaign. During pre-season, the French national has shown promising signs. But then got injured before the gaffer’s first competitive fixture in the Manchester-based club’s dugout.
The 27-year-old then found himself in and out of the side. Ten Hag has been unable to rely on the striker on a consistent basis.
However, whenever Martial has been available, the Dutch manager has counted on him. The French national has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Man United this term, scoring six goals and providing two assists.
With the 27-year-olds fitness issues, he has been unable to complete 90 minutes in any game in the current campaign. Subsequently, with the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November, the Red Devils brought Wout Weghort on loan to bolster the attack.
The Holland international has featured heavily since his arrival. While the 30-year-old has brought industry to the attack and his work rate has been admirable, the former Wolfsburg star leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Hopefully, the Old Trafford side will be able to get a positive result against Newcastle in the final. Martial’s unavailability will be a blow, but we have enough quality up top.
