Man United star hails Erik ten Hag for dropping the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford

Bruno Fernandes hails Erik ten Hag for dropping the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has hailed Erik ten Hag for dropping the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford from the team.

Since the Dutch manager’s arrival at the end of last season, he has seemingly instilled discipline in the team. Initially, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner struggled to get into the Red Devils’ starting lineup.

Subsequently, the Portuguese icon was suspended for the game against Chelsea in the Premier League after he refused to come on as a substitute in the 2-0 win.

Toward the end of his stint in Manchester, the gaffer was starting to reintegrate Ronaldo into the team. Then in November, the 38-year-old parted ways with the Old Trafford side after an interview with Piers Morgan where he criticised the former Ajax head coach.

Ten Hag also dropped Marcus Rashford to the bench earlier in the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league. The 25-year-old had missed a team meeting and came on as a substitute to score the winner in the 1-0 victory.

Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Fernandes admires the bold decisions the gaffer has made over the course of the campaign to set a standard at the club.

“He did it many times. He did it with Cristiano [Ronaldo], he did it with Jadon [Sancho], Marcus [Rashford] also.

“In the big moments like Marcus was probably in the best form against Wolves, he did something wrong, the manager pulled him out and everyone was like ‘whoa’.”

Rashford has arguably been one of our most important players this season. Apart from the England international, none of our forwards has managed to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Ten Hag has turned things around at United in a short span of time. We are currently still alive in all four competitions and are in contention to win the quadruple.

The Dutch manager has evidently changed the mentality at the Old Trafford side. Hopefully, will be able to continue to make progress with the Red Devils and will keep the standards high for years to come.
