Manchester United duo Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw have ‘done enough’ for a new contract

Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw have ‘done enough’ this season to each be handed a new Manchester United contract, according to Football Transfers (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The pair have impressed in the current campaign and are expected to be handed new deals. Their current terms are set to expire in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt).

There is also expected to be a clearout at the Old Trafford side in the upcoming transfer window. Several players could see their time with the Red Devils come to an end next summer.

Dalot joined United in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. Initially, the Portugal international was a backup player at the Old Trafford side. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he hardly got any opportunities.

However, with the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, things changed a bit for the 23-year-old. Subsequently, he got more of a chance in the team. Now under Erik ten Hag, the right-back has pipped Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.

In the current campaign, Dalot has been the gaffer’s preferred choice on the right-hand side of the defence. The Portuguese has made 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

As for Shaw, he has had a mixed spell with the Red Devils since moving from Southampton in 2014. Injuries have not helped the England international’s cause in Manchester either.

However, this season, the 27-year-old has shown. While Ten Hag went with Tyrell Malacia in the starting lineup at the start, the England international is now firmly a part of the Dutch manager’s plans.

Considering how Dalot and Shaw have performed in the current campaign, they both deserve new contracts. Hopefully, the club will tie the duo down for the long term as soon as possible.
