Luke Shaw ‘close’ to agreeing new contract at Manchester United
England international Luke Shaw, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt), is ‘close’ to agreeing a new deal at Manchester United, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
At the moment, talks of a potential renewal are progressing well. Both the club and the 27-year-old are confident of reaching a consensus over new terms.
Erik ten Hag has played a key role in helping the left-back find his feet once again. The former Southampton star has also responded well to the arrival of Tyrell Malacia at the Old Trafford side.
The Red Devils signed the Holland international in the summer of 2022. After the abysmal start to the season, Shaw was dropped from the starting lineup and replaced with the former Feyenoord star, who deputised admirably.
However, the England international has quickly regained his place in the gaffer’s plans with some immense displays. The 27-year-old also shone for the Three Lions in the 2022 World Cup.
Subsequently, Shaw has cemented his place at United. On a few occasions, the left-back has also been deployed as a centre-back by the Dutch manager and has done well.
The 27-year-old signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2014. However, injuries have hampered his development at the Old Trafford side over the years.
Often, the English national has found himself in and out of the team. But it seems now the defender has finally gotten over his fitness issues and is able to consistently perform at a high level for us.
