Pedri a ‘doubt’ for Barcelona Europa League return leg vs Manchester United
Barcelona star Pedri is a ‘doubt’ to feature in the second leg of the Europa League against Manchester United at Old Trafford after picking up an injury, according to Evening Standard.
The 20-year-old started in the first leg at Camp Nou in the 2-2 draw with the Red Devils. However, in the first half, the Spain international had to be substituted. At around the 40th-minute mark, Sergi Roberto replaced the youngster.
On Friday (17 February), the Blaugrana confirmed that tests carried on on Pedri had revealed that he had injured his left hamstring. Apart from the 20-year-old, at the moment, Sergio Busquets and Ousmane Dembele are also on the sidelines.
The Spain international joined the La Liga giants from La Palmas in the summer of 2020. However, he immediately became a key player for the Spanish outfit under Ronald Koeman.
Subsequently, over the last few years, the midfielder has cemented his place in Barcelona’s engine room. Xavi has also put faith in the youngster, alongside Gavi, who picked up a yellow card in the first leg of the UEL play-off tie and is also suspended for the game in Manchester.
In the current campaign, Pedri has also developed an eye for goal. The 20-year-old has made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Catalan outfit in all competitions and has found the back of the net seven times.
However, Xavi has other quality players like Frenkie de Jong and Frank Kessie at his disposal in the middle of the park.
United had some key players like Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Christian Eriksen unavailable in the 2-2 draw. Hopefully, the centre-back and Brazilian forward will feature for the Red Devils on 23 February at home.
