Bayer Leverkusen could part ways with Jeremie Frimpong next summer amidst Manchester United interest

Manchester United could be presented with the opportunity to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong in the upcoming transfer window, according to German outlet Kicker (h/t Express).

The Red Devils are interested in the Holland international. In January, the 22-year-old was linked with a move to the Old Trafford side. However, in the end, he ended up staying at the Bundesliga outfit.

At the moment, Erik ten Hag can call upon Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Portugal international has been the gaffer’s first choice in the current campaign. However, the former Crystal Palace star has deputised admirably in the 23-year-old’s absence in recent weeks.

But currently, there are doubts about the futures of both of our right-backs. Therefore, if either of them decides to leave in the coming months, we will evidently need to add reinforcements.

Leverkusen are keen to quickly part ways with Frimpong at the end of the season. The Bundesliga giants are looking to replace the 22-year-old with Real Valladolid star Ivan Fresneda.

The Holland international made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester City before signing for Celtic. After spending over a season in Scotland, the German outfit came calling for the full-back’s signature in January 2021.

At Leverkusen, Frimpong has thrived. In 26 appearances in all competitions for the Bay Arena side, the 22-year-old has scored five goals and has provided five assists.

Dalot has been pivotal for United in the current campaign. Before the 2022 World Cup, the Portuguese national had started in all but one game for the Red Devils. But Wan-Bissaka has fallen down the pecking order.

It will be interesting to see whether the 25-year-old will stay at the Old Trafford side beyond this term. If he does not, Frimpong looks like a good option due to his age and potential.
