Brentford shot-stopper David Raya coy about transfer speculation amidst Manchester United interest

David Raya, who currently plays for Brentford, was coy when asked about the transfer speculation surrounding him amidst interest from Manchester United.

The shot-stopper is being linked with various Premier League clubs at the moment. Currently, the Red Devils are one of the sides eyeing the 27-year-old. The Old Trafford side are looking for a potential successor to David de Gea.

The 32-year-old’s current contract at United expires at the end of the season. But the Red Devils do have the option to extend the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper’s stay by an additional year.

Raya’s deal at the West London-based club is in its final months, ending in the summer of 2024. The Spaniard has admitted that he has turned down new contract talks with the Bees for now.

However, speaking to PA news agency via The Independent (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 27-year-old is not focusing on the interest in him. The shot-stopper admitted that he was happy at Brentford.

“I’m not sure if it’s interest, people talking or my name being thrown around. Brentford feels like home, when I came here three-and-a-half years ago it’s because I needed a new challenge.

“It’s always going to be home – no matter what. I’m in one of the happiest times of my career. I’m a happy guy, you will never see me moaning. Football is my life, so I do what I love.”

Raya signed for the Bees in the summer of 2019 from Blackburn Rovers. Over the years, the Spaniard has been a key player for the West London-based club.

Since last season, the 27-year-old has been impressive in the Premier League for Thomas Frank’s team. In the current campaign, he has made 21 appearances in the English top flight, keeping eight clean sheets.

Apart from De Gea, Erik ten Hag has Tom Heaton at his disposal. The Red Devils also signed Jack Butland on loan from Crystal Palace in the recent transfer window.
