Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea confident about signing a new deal
As quoted by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is confident about extending his stay at Old Trafford by signing a new contract.
The Spain international, who has his contract expiring at the end of this season with an option for a year’s extension (Transfermarkt), has had an excellent campaign so far. United are looking to extend his stay beyond that.
In fact, if we look back at the six to seven years, de Gea has been one of the most consistent players at United. At his current age (32), it feels as if there are a few more years to his game at the elite level.
Here’s what the Spaniard said about his future and also looking ahead to the important games coming up (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“We’re still talking. I’m just focused on the game, that’s the most important thing, but for sure it’s going to end in a good way.
“Again, game on Wednesday, game on Sunday, it’s not easy, we have to be very focused. It’s a special game always against Leeds. Let’s see, we have some games to prepare the game properly, recovery, and go again.”
After a difficult season in 2020/21 where he was eventually dropped to the bench in favour of Dean Henderson, de Gea has recovered well from that in the last 12 months. Although he still does not seem comfortable with the ball at his feet, he is improving at that.
The most important quality of a goalkeeper is to stop shots and command his six-yard box. The Spaniard does both of those things at a very high level.
After beating Crystal Palace on Saturday to consolidate our third position in the table, we welcome Leeds United on Wednesday before playing them away next weekend.

The Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United is not far away as well. De Gea and co would be hoping to win their first trophy in six years ahead of the key part of the season. The Spaniard continuing his stay at the club would be great news for everyone around.
