Erik ten Hag delighted with reception Jadon Sancho received on return for Manchester United against Nottingham Forest
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was delighted with the reception Jadon Sancho received after his long-awaited return against Nottingham Forest.
Steve Cooper’s team visited the Red Devils in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday (1 February) after losing 3-0 in the reverse fixture. The 22-year-old came on as a substitute in the second half at Old Trafford in the 2-0 win over the Tricky Trees.
Speaking after the victory to MUTV (h/t Metro), Ten Hag was happy with how the fans received Sancho after his lengthy lay-off.
“It was great. The fans who cheered him on and gave him loud applause, that’s great for Jadon and it shows how the fans like Jadon Sancho to give him this love.
“So we are happy with this, we need that connection with the fans and it has been growing all season, so I hope we can keep going in this process.”
The winger has not played for Man United since the 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League in October. During the 2022 World Cup break, the 22-year-old spent time in the Netherlands undergoing a personal fitness programme.
The England international has only returned to Carrington recently. Against Forest, the forward was finally given an opportunity after 102 days without an appearance.
Going into the break, the scores were level. At around the hour mark, Ten Hag opted to bring on Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Sancho.
The France international broke the deadlock for the Red Devils in the 73rd minute. A few minutes later, Rashford set up Fred to double our lead. During his time on the pitch, the former Borussia Dortmund star looked promising.
Since his move to Manchester, the 22-year-old has failed to make a considerable impact. The England international has failed to live up to the expectations in the English top flight up until now.
