Erik ten Hag reveals Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay out with injury for a few weeks
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Scott McTominay will be on the sidelines for a few weeks after picking up an injury.
The Scotland international has suffered “muscular” problems that have led to his unavailability. Apart from the 26-year-old, the Dutch manager will also be without Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen.
Speaking to the media via Sport Bible, Ten Hag confirmed McTominay picking up a knock. However, the gaffer has concerns about the midfielder being out for longer than a couple of weeks.
“It is, of course, a concern and there are things you have to deal with and you can’t do nothing for it.
“You can set the squad but in January is dropping out Donny [van de Beek] for the rest of the season and Christian Eriksen for part of the season and also Scott McTominay is not available for the coming week, two weeks, maybe even longer.”
Van de Beek is out for the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury against Bournemouth at the start of January. The Holland international has been unlucky with his fitness issues in the current campaign.
In our last match against Reading in the FA Cup, Eriksen also got hurt after a challenge from Andy Carroll. The Denmark international has been a key player for United and will be a big miss.
Now, Ten Hag will also not be able to count on McTominay for some time. The academy graduate has started just seven games in the Premier League in the current campaign. In recent matches, the gaffer has hardly called upon the midfielder.
While the Scotland international has not played a lot this season, our depth in the middle of the park has taken a hit. Thus, the 26-year-old would have evidently been a key player for us with other players out.
However, the Dutch manager is left with just two established midfielders in Casemiro and Fred. Thankfully, the Red Devils also signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich on deadline day.
