Manchester United could ‘make a move’ for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in January or next summer
Leicester City star Youri Tielemans has emerged as an option for Manchester United, with the club eyeing a move for the midfielder in January or next summer.
The Red Devils could ‘make a move’ to capture the 25-year-old’s signature in the ongoing transfer window or wait to sign him for free. At the end of the season, the Belgium international’s current contract with the foxes will expire.
Leicester are not expected to reach an agreement with Tielemans over extending his stay in the East Midlands. As a result, the Old Trafford side could snap him up.
Speaking to The Football Terrace via The Boot Room (h/t The Sun), CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs revealed United could enter the race for Tielemans.
“I think we shouldn’t only be referring to a late Manchester United movement in terms of strikers. From what I hear it’s more creative-minded players that can either get box to box from attacking midfield, or in central areas, or are a little more versatile across the front areas.
“Therefore, keep an eye on a player like Youri Tielemans who will be available on a free transfer in the summer.”
The Belgian joined Leicester in the winter window of 2019 from AS Monaco. Subsequently, the 25-year-old has become a key player for the Foxes.
Over the years, the midfielder has enjoyed a fruitful spell at the King Power Stadium side. However, Brendan Rodgers’ team are struggling in the current campaign.
While Tielemans has been decent for Leicester this season, they are fighting to survive the drop. The East Midland club are just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League table.
United’s midfield ranks evidently lack depth. Casemiro and Cristian Eriksen have been quality. However, on the bench, Fred and Scott McTominay do not instil much confidence. Also, Donny van de Beek is out for the rest of the season with an injury.

Therefore, a quality midfield addition seems necessary. Tielemas ticks many boxes that make a star player. Getting someone like the Belgian for a minimal fee or on a free transfer makes sense from a financial point of view.
