Manchester United have ‘started’ negotiations for Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae over summer transfer
Manchester United have ‘started’ negotiations for Napoli star Kim Min-jae over a possible move in the upcoming transfer window, according to an Italian news outlet via United Transfer Room on Fan Nation.
The Red Devils have opened talks with the South Korea international’s representatives. Between 1–15 July, 2023, the 26-year-old will have a release clause of €48 million, which the Old Trafford side plan on triggering.
Min-jae has been in fine form in the current campaign. As a result, a number of clubs are looking to acquire the defender’s services.
The South Korean joined the Partenopei recently. In the summer of 2022, the centre-back moved from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce to Naples.
At Napoli, the 26-year-old has immediately made a mark. He has been successful in filling the void that Kalidou Koulibaly left in Luciano Spalletti’s team as the Senegal international made his way to Chelsea in the previous transfer window.
At the moment, Min-jae is enjoying a fruitful season alongside the whole of the Partenopei. They are currently leading the Serie A table, on course to lift their first Scudetto in 33 years.
The 26-year-old also showcased his talent in Qatar with South Korea. Paulo Bento’s team reached the round of 16 but were knocked out by Brazil.
Erik ten Hag has a host of defenders at his disposal for now. However, the likes of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have found life difficult in Manchester under the Dutch manager. The duo have seen their minutes dwindle drastically.

Therefore, it would not be surprising to see either of the two leaving United next summer. However, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have cemented their place in the starting lineup. Will Min-jae want to compete for minutes with the two? Only time will tell.
