Manchester United ‘interested’ in taking Real Betis forward Borja Iglesias on loan in January
Manchester United are ‘interested’ in getting Real Betis star Borja Iglesias on loan in the ongoing transfer window, according to Estadio Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are looking to add an elite, big-name striker to their ranks in the summer of 2023. We have already signed Wout Weghorst on a temporary move until the end of the season this month.
However, the Old Trafford side are also eyeing another forward to the squad. As a result, the 30-year-old is a possibility for the Manchester-based club in January.
Iglesias has had a vast career in La Liga over the years. He made his way through the youth ranks at Villarreal and then signed for Celta Vigo’s reserve side. Subsequently, the Spain international joined Real Zaragoza.
After impressing with Los Manos, RCD Espanyol came calling. The 30-year-old continued his fine form in Barcelona and built up the reputation of being a prolific goalscorer.
Iglesias made his way to Betis in the summer of 2019. However, the Spaniard has been unable to remain consistent in Sevilla. But in the current campaign, the 30-year-old has done well, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in 16 La Liga outings.

United signed Weghorst to bolster the forward line after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit midway through the campaign. The Holland international has started in our last three fixtures and made a difference against Nottingham Forest, scoring his debut goal in the 3-0 victory in the Carabao Cup.
However, Anthony Martial has continued to struggle with injuries this season after missing most of the first half of the campaign. Apart from the 27-year-old, Marcus Rashford has also been deployed as the number nine.

However, if the France international continues to have fitness issues, will we be able to cope with the limited options up front for the rest of the campaign? Only time will tell. Therefore, getting another striker on loan seems like a wise move.
