Erik ten Hag pleased with the performance of Manchester United forward Antony against Nottingham Forest
Manchester United manager Erik ten hag was pleased with the performances of Antony against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
The Old Trafford side visited the City Ground on Wednesday (25 January) in the first leg of the semi-final in the domestic cup competition. We ended up beating Steve Cooper’s team 3-0.
Speaking after the victory via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag was satisfied with the Brazil international’s display. However, the Dutch manager feels the 22-year-old should have found the back of the net.
“I think he played a really good game. I think he was a threat in between the lines, he was good in the physicality, he had some good actions to go at the opponent. He had to score (in a one-on-one) but it was a great combination.”
In the first half, Marcus Rahford broke the deadlock after the opening few minutes. The 25-year-old has been in fine form in the current campaign and has been our talisman. He has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 appearances for us.
Forest subsequently got into the game and created a few chances on the break. In between in the first half, Antony was also played through on goal. However, the 22-year-old missed a one-on-one with Wayne Hennessey.

Subsequently, the Brazilian had a shot on goal just before half-time. While the Welsh shot-stopper saved the winger’s attempt, Wout Weghorst was first to the rebound and found the back of the net.
Antony had a decent game overall and looked lively. In the 71st minute, the 22-year-old was substituted for Facundo Pellistri. The Uruguayan showed glimpses of his talent as well.

Towards the end of the fixture, Forest were looking to get one back while the Red Devils also looked to get a third goal. And we got that in the 89th minute as Bruno Fernandes beat Hennessey.
It was an encouraging outing from Antony. He has been a bit underwhelming in the last few matches. Now, it remains to be seen whether the Brazilian can keep up the consistency in his performances.
