Premier League rivals Chelsea are set to be challenged by Manchester United in their bid to sign Olympique Lyon star Malo Gusto, according to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins on Twitter (h/t The Sun).

The Blues are in negotiations with the Ligue 1 outfit to acquire the 19-year-old’s services. Graham Potter’s team have already agreed on personal terms with the full-back.

However, the Red Devils are looking to ‘hijack’ the Stamford Bridge side’s transfer for the France U21 international. The Old Trafford side have urged the youngster ‘not to rush’ a decision.

Chelsea have already signed a number of players in the ongoing transfer window. Now, they are trying to get a hold of Gusto, with a contract longer than five years.

The French national broke into Lyon’s first team in the previous campaign and caught a lot of people’s eyes. This, the 19-year-old has once again been a key player for the Ligue 1 outfit, although it has not been a fruitful period for them

Potter currently has Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta at his disposal for the right-back spot. However, the England international has been injury prone, while the veteran Spaniard is in the final years of his career.

Erik ten Hag has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to call upon. The Portuguese has been the gaffer’s preferred option, while the former Crystal Palace star has played second fiddle for most of the campaign.

However, in recent weeks, the England U21 international has been given more minutes due to the former FC Porto star’s absence. The 25-year-old has deputised admirably.

But Dalot is ahead of Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order. Thus, if the 25-year-old decides to leave in January or next summer, Gusto looks like a decent talent to get a hold of to add depth to the squad.
