Manchester United make ‘initial approach’ for AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi amidst Bayern Munich interest

Manchester United have made an ‘initial approach’ for AS Monaco star Axel Disasi with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich interested in him, according to Telefoot on Twitter (h/t The Sun).

The Red Devils are looking to add reinforcement to their backline and have identified the France international as an option. But the French outfit are looking for £44 million to part ways with the defender.

Monaco lost Benoit Badiashile to Chelsea in the ongoing transfer window. As a result, the Ligue 1 outfit will not want to lose the 24-year-old for cheap.

On the other hand, the Old Trafford side will also have to contend with the Bavarians to get a hold of Disasi’s signature. Julian Nagelsmann’s team have made the France international a ‘priority target’.

Bayern’s backline includes the 24-year-old’s compatriot Dayot Upamecano. They also boast the likes of Lucas Hernandez, Matthijs de Ligt and Benjamin Pavard, who are capable of playing as centre-back.

Disasi has been at Monaco since the summer of 2020 and has developed into a fine defender over the years. The French national has played a key role in keeping the Ligue 1 outfit robust this season as well.

The 24-year-old also made his way into Didier Deschamps’ squad for the 2022 World Cup and featured for Les Bleus in Qatar, although as a right-back. In the end, France lost the finals to Argentina.

United’s defence has a lot of depth at the moment. This season, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have become Ten Hag’s preferred partnership. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are also at the Dutch manager’s disposal.

However, game time has been hard to come by for our captain and the Sweden international under the Dutch manager. Therefore, if either of them decides to leave for pastures new, Disasi looks like a decent option to have on the list of replacements.
