Arsenal defender William Saliba hoping to beat Manchester United after defeat in reverse fixture

William Saliba is hoping Arsenal will beat Manchester United after the Gunners lost the reverse fixture in the Premier League. The France international is determined to beat the Red Devils.

In September 2022, Mikel Arteta’s team visited Old Trafford. They had won every league game in the current campaign up until that point. However, we beat them 3-1.

Speaking to the Evening Standard (h/t Manchester Evening News), Saliba is looking forward to the match against United. The 21-year-old is determined to get revenge on us.

“We know we face a big game this week. We know they [United] beat us. They are the only team to beat us this season in the Premier League and we want to beat them again at home.

“We will prepare very good for this game I think, and I hope we will win in front of our fans.”

The French centre-back has been a pivotal player for the North London side this season. He has become a key player for them alongside Gabriel Magalhaes at the back.

Saliba started in the defeat to the Red Devils. Antony gave us the lead in the first half on his debut before Bakato Saka equalised for Arsenal at the hour mark.

However, Marcus Rashford was on hand to get the three points for the home side. The 25-year-old set up our first goal and found the back of the net twice in the second half to hand the Gunners their only loss in the league so far this season.

Erik ten Hag has had a few bumps in the road initially in Manchester. However, the Dutch manager has inspired us to nine straight victories in all competitions before our draw against Crystal Palace.

Right now, United are eight points behind Arsenal in the table. Manchester City are the other team chasing the Gunners, while Newcastle United have been the surprise package of the season, making up the current top four.

A victory over the North Londoners would take us to within five points of Arteta’s team. However, we have played a game more than them. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side are able to get the three points at the Emirates Stadium to make the title race more exciting.
