Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren on shortlist for Ghana national team manager
Steve McClaren, the current assistant coach at Manchester United, is on the shortlist to become the next manager of the Ghana national team, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils could lose the English national in the coming weeks. The Black Stars are expected to appoint a new head coach by the end of January.
Former Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton is also a name being associated with the African national team’s hot seat. The 64-year-old has worked as a technical advisor for Ghana in the past year.
Another name being eyed by the Black Stars is Hector Cuper. The Argentine has managed the likes of Valencia, Real Betis and Parma over the years.
McClaren joined Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff in the summer of 2022. The Dutch manager previously worked under the English coach during his stint as FC Twente manager.
The 61-year-old was an assistant at United for a few years under Sir Alex Ferguson as well. Subsequently, he has gone on to manage various clubs as well as the Three Lions.
After a shaky start to the current campaign, the Red Devils have managed to bounce back in fine fashion. Ten Hag and the rest of the coaching staff have done an exceptional job in a short amount of time.
The Old Trafford side are alive in all four competitions at the moment. We are currently third in the Premier League table, eight points behind leaders Arsenal. McClaren, being part of the Dutch manager’s team, deserves a lot of credit as well.
