Bruno Fernandes not “worried” about Scott McTominay penalty decision in Manchester United vs Crystal Palace
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is not “worried” about the penalty decision that went against Scott McTominay in the match against Crystal Palace.
In the 73rd minute, the Red Devils appealed for a penalty after the Scotland international was brought down by the Eagles’ defender Chris Richards. However, referee Robert Jones saw nothing wrong with it and the VAR stuck by his call.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro) after the 1-1 draw, Fernandes was not fussed about the decision. The Portuguese realises that it could have gone either way. He is now looking forward to getting the three points against Arsenal.
“I don’t know, on the pitch it seems Scott gets onto the ball and the Crystal Palace guy tried to tackle him. The referee said he tried to tackle Scott or whatever, but decisions can go either way.
“We can’t be worried about that now, there is nothing we can do about that now. We just have to look forward to the next game. Because it is a big game again and another one where we want the three points.”
United visited Selhurst Park on Wednesday (18 January). We were looking for our 10th straight win in all competitions. However, Patrick Vieira’s team scuppered our plans in the end.
Both teams created a few chances in the first half. It took a brilliant save from David de Gea to keep the Eagles off of the scoresheet. But just before half-time, Fernandes found the back of the net to break the deadlock.
However, after the break, the Old Trafford side looked a bit lethargic. As a result, Palace took control of the game. Our shot-stopper was once again crucial for us in certain moments.
In the 69th minute, Erik ten Hag brought on McTominay from the bench to replace debutant Wout Weghorst. However, the Eagles were pushing for the equaliser.
In the 90th minute, Vieira’s team were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out from the United goal. Michael Olise’s powerful shot hit the underside of the crossbar and beat David de Gea. There was nothing the Spaniard could have done about it.

If the penalty decision had gone our way, the game could have had a different ending. However, such things often happen in football, like the awarding of Fernandes’ controversial equaliser against Manchester City.
