Erik ten Hag confident about Wout Weghorst adding value to Manchester United squad
The Holland international will ply his trade at the Old Trafford side after being at Besiktas for half of the current campaign. In Turkey, the 30-year-old had become a key player for the Super Lig outfit.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag has stated that he is familiar with Weghorst’s abilities and talent. The Dutch manager is hopeful that the striker will showcase his skills in Manchester.
I have known him since he was 16 years old and everywhere he has been he has surprised. He has shown at all his club that he could add something or strengthen something. He has an incredible mentality. Even defensively he can add value to a team.”
The Holland international initially made a name for himself at AZ Alkmaar before signing for VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2018. In Germany, the forward enjoyed some prolific years.
Over the course of his time at the Bundesliga outfit, the 30-year-old made 144 appearances in all competitions. He found the back of the net 70 times and provided 22 assists.
Then, in the winter window of 2022, Weghorst joined Burnley. However, he was unable to make a mark with the Clarets as they were relegated from the Premier League.
Now, the Holland international has gotten the opportunity to redeem himself in the English top flight. United needed a player like the 30-year-old to bolster the number nine position after Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit in November.
The Red Devils are flying high at the moment. We beat Manchester City in the derby to close the gap in the league at the top. The Old Trafford side are now just one point behind the reigning champions.
