Manchester United join Arsenal and other clubs in race for French centre-back

Manchester United ‘join’ race for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka

Manchester United have joined the race for Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back and French national Evan Ndicka, according to journalist Ben Jacobs via The Football Terrace on YouTube.

The 23-year-old’s current contract at Die Adler expires at the end of the season. As a result, the defender will be a free agent in the summer of 2023 unless he signs a new deal.

However, the Red Devils will face competition for Ndicka’s signature from other top sides. Premier League rivals Liverpool and Arsenal are also monitoring the centre-back, while Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping a close eye on him.

The 23-year-old joined Frankfurt in the summer of 2018 from French outfit Auxerre. Over the years, the French national has developed into a quality centre-back in the Bundesliga.

Ndicka played a key role for Oliver Glasner’s team in the previous campaign. The German side ended up lifting the Europa League after beating Rangers in the final on penalties.

In the current campaign, the French centre-back has once again been a mainstay for Frankfurt. He has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Die Adler, providing one assist.

United’s backline at the moment is seemingly secure. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have formed a solid partnership in defence for the Red Devils under Erik ten Hag.

We have enough strength in depth with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in the squad. However, the England and Swedish internationals have become bit-part players this season. Our captain showed his qualities recently at the 2022 World Cup and was one of the best players for the Three Lions in Qatar.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the two will want to continue in Manchester as squad players. But if either of them does leave the Old Trafford side, Ndicka is a smart option to keep an eye on given his age and ceiling.
