Napoli striker Victor Osimhen ‘main’ transfer target for Manchester United next summer
Manchester United have made Napoli striker Victor Osimhen their ‘main’ transfer target for the next transfer window, according to TuttoNapoli (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are interested in making the 24-year-old their marquee signing in the summer of 2023. His current contract with the Partenopei expires in 2025. If it looks like the Nigeria international is not looking to put pen to paper on a new deal, the Serie A giants could be forced to sell him.
In January, the Old Trafford side are looking for short-term solutions to bolster the attack. Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit has dwindled Erik ten Hag’s options up front.
At the moment, Anthony Martial is the only natural striker in the squad. The France international has struggled with injuries in the current campaign. In recent fixtures, the gaffer has had to manage the 27-year-old’s minutes.
Osimhen made his way to Naples in the summer of 2020 from French outfit LOSC Lille. Under Luciano Spalletti since last season, the Nigerian has been a key player for the Italian outfit.
In this term, Napoli are flying high. The Partenopei currently sit at the top of the Serie A table and had a brilliant group stage campaign in the Champions League. Now, they will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the round of 16.
The 24-year-old has led the Italian outfit’s line admirably. In the current campaign, he has found the back of the net 11 times in 16 appearances in all competitions for the Naples-based club.
At United, Ten Hag has relied heavily on Marcus Rashford to get the goal. The 25-year-old is our top goalscorer this season. However, he is not an out-and-out striker and it would be unwise to put all our hopes on him to deliver week in, week out.

Thus, we evidently need someone to support the England international’s efforts up front. While Martial has been decent under the Dutch manager, the Red Devils could seemingly do with more quality up front. Osimhen has shown a keen eye for goal at Napoli. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side will be able to acquire his services next summer.
