Kobbie Mainoo delighted with “unbelievable” Manchester United debut against Charlton Athletic
Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo is delighted about making his “unbelievable” debut for the Red Devils against Charlton Athletic.
The 17-year-old started the fixture against the League One outfit. We took on the Addicks in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup at home on Tuesday (10 January). The Old Trafford side ended up winning 3-0.
Speaking after the victory to MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News), Mainoo expressed his excitement at getting to play for the senior team. It was a special occasion for the youngster with his family present.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling. I’ve been at this club all my life, it’s all led to tonight. To have my family here watching me, surrounding me, it’s just amazing. All my immediate family were here, I think bringing anyone else would be too much!”
The England U18 international lasted an hour before being replaced by Casemiro. He had a decent game and looked lively in certain moments.
Having come up through the youth ranks at United, the 17-year-old has been one of the best prospects in our youth sides. The youngster could have a bright future at the Old Trafford side if he is developed properly.
There have been some decent academy stars who have broken into the first-team setup in recent times. During pre-season, the likes of Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage caught a lot of people’s attention.
Alejandro Garnacho has also made an impact this season. The
Argentine has come in clutch on several occasions in the current campaign for United.Mainoo also has Marcus Rashford to look up to. The 25-year-old has been in fine form this term. He is currently the clubs leading goalscorer in the current campaign.

While the 17-year-old still has a long way to go, it is exciting for many to see homegrown players feature for the senior side. Hopefully, we will get to see more glimpses of the England U18 international as the season goes on. It will be interesting to see whether the midfielder lives up to his billing in the coming future.
