Newcastle United realise move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay ‘unlikely’
Premier League rivals Newcastle United realise that a move for Manchester United star Scott McTominay is ‘unlikely’, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Manchester Evening News].
The Magpies are looking to add reinforcements to their squad in the ongoing transfer window. One of the names being eyed by Eddie Howe’s team is the Scotland international.
But while the Tyneside outfit are in the market for the 26-year-old, it remains to be seen whether they make a move for him. The St James’ Park side already have Bruno Guimaraes in their ranks.
Newcastle can also count on the likes of Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and others in the middle of the park. The Magpies are also flying high in the Premier League at the moment.
McTominay has come up through the youth ranks at the Old Trafford side. He established himself in the senior side in the 2017/18 campaign and has become a regular first-team player over the years.
However, in the current campaign, the 26-year-old has lost his place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup. The arrival of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen has dwindled the Scotland international’s minutes on the pitch.
The Brazilian has been one of our best players this season. Since the 30-year-old’s first league start against Everton, he has been in imperial form for United.
Eriksen has also turned many people’s heads with his displays. The former Tottenham Hotspur star has surprised many and has cemented a place in Erik ten Hag’s plans in Manchester.

McTominay will seemingly not want to become a bit-part player at the Old Trafford side, even though it is his boyhood club. Thus, will the 26-year-old look for pastures new in the upcoming transfer windows? Only time will tell.
