Erik ten Hag, who was appointed head coach of Manchester United at the end of last season, is looking to “improve the team” in the ongoing transfer window.

The Red Devils got a few good players during the summer of 2022. However, the gaffer is still eager to have a better squad at his disposal.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag wants the club to be ready whenever an opportunity in the market arises.

“We always have to look for that as we push the players. Because good is not good enough.

“Also in an organisation we have to push each other and when there are opportunities in the top you always have to be ready for that.

“But my main focus is to get a better team, to improve the team.”

In the previous transfer window, Ten Hag was afforded the signings of two defenders, two midfielders, an attacker and a backup goalkeeper on loan. However, Martin Dubravak was recalled from his temporary move.

Thus, United now have just two senior goalkeepers in the squad, David de Gea and Tom Heaton. But we are close to our first January incoming in the form of Jack Butland to bolster the squad.

The Old Trafford side also got Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez. Both of them have added value to the team. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen’s signings have also been impactful.

Antony made his way to Manchester in the summer of 2022 from Ajax and reunited with the Dutch manager. The Brazilian has been a constant fixture on the right wing when he has been available.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure has dwindled United’s options in the number nine position. Anthony Martial is the only natural striker in the squad at the moment. Marcus Rashford has also been deployed up front on several occasions this season.

Thus, we evidently need to bolster our attack. The campaign is long and an injury issue can arise at any moment. However, will the hierarchy at the Old Trafford side provide Ten Hag with more funds in the winter, considering the uncertainty around the owners of the club? Only time will tell.
