Joan Laporta insists Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong “not for sale” amidst Manchester United interest
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has insisted that the Netherlands international Frenkie de Jong is “not for sale” amidst interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils were linked with the 25-year-old’s signature in the previous transfer window. But in the end, a move for the midfielder did not materialise. However, the Old Trafford side are looking to reignite their pursuit of the Holland international.
But speaking to Casen SER (h/t Mirror), Laporta has reiterated that the Blaugrana has no desire to part ways with De Jong. He believes the Holland international has “significant value” for the club.

“Ter Stegen and De Jong? We are very happy with both. None are for sale. Frenkie has significant value, several clubs are interested in him, but he is not for sale.”
The 25-year-old signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2019 from Ajax. During his time in Amsterdam, the midfielder was managed by Erik ten Hag.
At the La Liga outfit, De Jong has developed into a fine player. He is capable of playing in various positions in the middle of the park. The Holland international has also added goals to his game in Spain.
The 25-year-old was also one of the Netherlands’ best players at the 2022 World Cup. However, Louis van Gaal’s team were unable to get past eventual champions Argentina in the quarter-finals.

United ended up signing Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the previous transfer window. The duo have been immaculate in their short time at the club.
The Brazil international has added much-needed quality to the number six position in the team. On the other hand, the former Tottenham Hotspur star has also surprised many with his displays in a red shirt.

However, Casemiro and Eriksen are set to turn 31 in February. Therefore, the Red Devils evidently need to have a long-term strategy. De Jong is a player with immense quality and someone who has worked under Ten Hag. However, will we get him in the coming future? Only time will tell.
