Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea explains the reason behind Erik ten Hag being angry in the win over Bournemouth

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea (h/t Manchester Evening News), has explained why manager Erik ten Hag was angry at the team despite them winning 3-0 against Bournemouth FC.

United played exceptionally in the first hour of the game and had a comfortable 2-0 lead thanks to composed finishes from Casemiro and Luke Shaw.

However, Ten Hag was less than pleased with the manner in which we conceded open chances to the opposition when leading and De Gea reiterated and explained it was the manner of the team conceding chances which saw the Dutchman’s anger.

“He was happy with the clean sheet but at the same time he was a bit angry. Because we conceded too many chances and we were too open at the end of the game, so he was a bit angry.”

“He (Ten Hag)’s doing well. I say before, he puts every player in the same direction and we feel like a proper team. Everyone wants to win, everyone wants to play for this club and that’s massive.”

Appointing Ten Hag as the manager of United has been one of the best decisions we have taken since the post-Fergie period after having seen numerous failed attempts to bring back the glory days.

Ten Hag has brought stability and discipline to the club, which was frankly missing the past few years and the subsequent results were there for all to see.

The manner in which he handled the Cristiano Ronaldo situation was impeccable while dropping the team’s most in-form player due to a disciplinary issue showed the importance he gives to discipline and how everyone needs to adhere to it.

As seen from various interviews with the first teamers in Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and many others, everyone is behind the manager and there is a sense of utmost unity in the team.

United deserves to be on top and fighting for all the major honours. Ten Hag has realised that and is doing everything in his power to stop being complacent even when the team is comfortably leading the game.

There should be no drop in standards for the entirety of the game and this is one of the main reasons that Manchester City and Liverpool have dominated over the past years. Simply due to the fact that they do not let their standards drop.

If we have to follow suit, a similar approach needs to be developed in the club and amongst all players and once that is achieved, it could see us fighting for the top honours. A manager being angry even when his team keeps a clean sheet and wins by three goals is a positive sign and long may it continue.
