AC Milan and France star Olivier Giroud has been ‘ruled out’ as a signing by Manchester United to bolster their attacking options, according to the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils are looking to add a number nine to their ranks in the ongoing transfer window. Erik ten Hag has revealed that the Old Trafford side are looking for a new striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Just before the start of the 2022 World Cup, the 37-year-old parted ways with the Manchester-based club. As a result, the Dutch manager’s options up front have dwindled.

Anthony Martial is the only natural number nine in the squad at the moment. However, the 27-year-old has had his injury issues in the current campaign.

United are looking to get a player on a loan deal. The uncertainty around the club’s future sale has restricted the Red Devils from looking for short-term, temporary options.

But Giroud will not be moving to Manchester to make his way back to England. The 36-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season.

The France international has found significant success in Italy with Milan. He helped the Rossoneri lift the Serie A title in the previous campaign after an 11-year drought.

The striker was also pivotal for Les Bleus at the 2022 World Cup, scoring against the likes of Australia, Poland and England. However, Didier Deschamps’ team lost the final to Argentina in the penalty shootout.

Marcus Rashford has also had to play up front for United on several occasions this season. Thus, we evidently need a striker. But Giroud’s age does not make him a compelling buy for us. Therefore, it is wise of the Red Devils to look at other options to strengthen their attack.
