Paul Scholes slams Marcus Rashford for being dropped from Manchester United starting lineup against Wolves
Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has slammed Marcus Rashford after the forward was dropped from the starting lineup against Wolverhampton Wanderers for an ‘internal disciplinary’ issue.
The 25-year-old started on the bench on Saturday (31 December) at Molineux Stadium in the Premier League. Alejandro Garnacho was given the nod ahead of the England international.
Speaking before the game on BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Scholes, who spent his entire career at the Manchester-based club, expressed his disappointment in Rashford.
“He’s jeopardising his own form a little bit by being stupid or whatever he’s done wrong and the manager has seen it to take him out the team.”
In the first half, United had a number of opportunities. The best chance came to Garnacho. However, the Argentine international was unable to beat Jose Sa one-on-one after being gifted the ball by Nelson Semedo.
After the break, the 18-year-old was replaced by the England international. However, the Red Devils did not look threatening for most of the second half.
However, the 25-year-old ended up being our saving grace. In the 76th minute, Rashford played a one-two with Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the opposition box and then used his strength to get past the defenders and scored the only goal of the fixture as we won 1-0.
The Old Trafford side’s academy graduate found the back of the net once again a few minutes later. However, the goal was ruled out by VAR for handball.
The 25-year-old has been in fine form this season for the Red Devils. He is the club’s leading goalscorer at the moment, having found the back of the net 11 times in 22 appearances.
