Manchester United are ‘open’ to making a move for Atletico Madrid and Spain star Alvaro Morata on a temporary transfer, according to ESPN (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils will only consider the 30-year-old’s arrival if Los Rojiblancos are willing to send him to Manchester on loan. Joao Felix, the striker’s teammate, is also an option for the Old Trafford side.

Morata has played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe throughout his career. He started at Real Madrid and then moved to Juventus. After impressing in Turin, Los Blancos re-signed the 30-year-old.

But after a season back at Santiago Bernabeu, Chelsea came calling and the Spaniard moved to England. However, the striker was underwhelming in West London and joined Atletico one and a half years later.

Morata had another spell at Juventus but is now back under Diego Simeone. In the current campaign, the Spaniard has scored five goals in 20 appearances in all competitions.

The 30-year-old also featured for Spain at the 2022 World Cup. He scored in every group stage fixture for Luis Enrique’s team. However, La Furia Roja were knocked out by Morocco in the round of 16.

United have lost depth in the number nine position after Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit. Anthony Martial is the only natural striker at Erik ten Hag’s disposal at the moment.

However, due to the France international’s injury issues this season, Marcus Rashford has been deployed up front on several occasions. The 25-year-old has been decent in leading the Red Devils’ line.

But we evidently need more numbers in the attack. If the Old Trafford side are unable to get their desired striker in January, a loan move for Morata as a short-term fix looks like a wise move.
