Portugal forward Rafael Leao “focused” on AC Milan amidst links to Manchester United and Chelsea
AC Milan and Portugal star Rafael Leao has insisted he is “focused” on the Rossoneri amidst links to Manchester United. However, the 23-year-old has not ruled out a move away from the Serie A giants in the future.
The forward joined the Italian outfit in the summer of 2019 from French side LOSC Lille. However, Chelsea, along with the Red Devils, are looking to snap the youngster’s signature, with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2024.
However, speaking to RDP Africa via Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Manchester Evening News), Leao admitted that he was open to a move to the Premier League. However, for the time being, the forward is committed to Milan.
“Yes, in the future. But now I’m 100 per cent focused on Milan. I’m at a top club and I’m under contract. I also like the city of Milan.”
The Portugal international started off his career at Sporting CP. He then moved to Ligue 1 before landing in Serie A. At the Rossoneri, the 23-year-old took a bit of time to settle in.
However, Leao became one of the leading players for the Italian outfit last season as they lifted the Scudetto after an 11-year drought. He has become a pivotal player for Stefano Pioli.
In the current campaign, Milan are looking to retain their title and currently sit second in the Serie A table. The Portuguese star has once again been their talisman. This season, the 23-year-old has scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.
The Italian outfit’s star played a part in the 2022 World Cup as well for Fernando Santo’s team. He scored against Ghana and Switzerland in Qatar. However, Os Navegadores were unable to make it past Morocco in the quarter-finals.
United’s forward line recently lost a player with the untimely departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese icon was starting to get regular starts under Erik ten Hag in our last few fixtures before the mid-season break.

Now, the Red Devils are left with just one natural number nine in Anthony Martial. However, Marcus Rashford can also play up top. So, will the Old Trafford side bring in Leao to replace his compatriot in Manchester? We will have to wait and see.
