Joan Laporta claims Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong is not for sale
Speaking to Barca TV (via GOAL) [h/t Manchester Evening News], Barcelona president Joan Laporta has sent Manchester United a blunt transfer message by claiming that Frenkie de Jong is not for sale.
The Barcelona chief went on to claim that De Jong has never been for sale all this while and this puts question marks on Manchester United’s pursuit of the talented Dutchman in a long-drawn saga that went on for the entirety of the summer.
The Red Devils are still being linked with a move for the player who Erik ten Hag coached during their time together at Ajax Amsterdam. However, it seems increasingly unlikely that a move for the Barcelona man will be possible.
Frenkie is one of the best midfielders in the world and at his best, he is simply unstoppable. Not many players boast of the skillset that the Barcelona man possesses and he has shown it on multiple occasions for club and country.
In fact, a case can be made for this immense talent often working in the wrong way for Frenkie. The Barcelona man is not judged on the same levels as others in his position and the bar for him has always been set very high.
This season, Frenkie has been superb for Barcelona and was rather underrated during the World Cup where he was the Netherlands’ best player without an iota of doubt. The Dutch midfielder has been having a very good season.
Here is what Joan Laporta had to say about Frenkie de Jong and it was not good news for Manchester United fans.
“I have never wanted to sell Frenkie de Jong because he is one of the mainstays we have. He is one of the great talents, young and he is already one of the team leaders.”
Despite the president coming out and squashing rumours about Frenkie leaving Barcelona, this is definitely not the last time we will be hearing about news linking the Dutchman with a move to Manchester.
