Erik ten Hag impressed with Aaron Wan-Bissaka after Manchester United win over Burnley
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was impressed with Aaron Wan-Bissaka after his performance against Burnley in the Carabao Cup fourth round, and said that the defender still has a future at Old Trafford..
The Red Devils took on the Clarets at Old Trafford on Wednesday (21 December). The right-back provided the assist for our first goal as we got a 2-0 win over Vincent Kompany’s team.
Speaking after the game via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag stressed that the England U21 international was a key player for United going forward. The Dutch manager also praised the 25-year-old for his display.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka: it’s clear he has a future. He had some good years here at Man United, but from the start this season he had a lot of illnesses and injuries, so running behind.
“He gave an assist – especially the way he gave the assist – about his movement in the right moment and timing, and of course a great pass by Bruno [Fernandes], but the assist is great. I’m happy with his performance. He did good.”
Wan-Bissaka got his first start in the current campaign against Burnley. The right-back was decent throughout the fixture and played 72 minutes before being substituted for Luke Shaw.
The England U21 international has not had the best of seasons under Ten Hag. Prior to the game against the Clarets, the 25-year-old had only been handed four minutes of competitive action in the current campaign.
Diogo Dalot has pipped the former Crystal Palace star in the pecking order. The Portugal international has started in a majority of the fixtures for the Red Devils this season. He has been one of the most improved players in the squad since the last term.
Wan-Bissaka was the first name on the team sheet under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, the arrival of Ralf Rangnick led to the 25-year-old losing his place in the team.
The former interim head coach gave Dalot regular game time. The 23-year-old has now cemented his place in the team in the current campaign while Wan-Bissaka has been linked with an exit to teams such as West Ham United.
